L.T.S. GunCompener is unique in its more recent propulsion to the Corporate Court. This is partially due to the influence of the One Percent’s run that catapulted them into underground stardom. The heads of the corporation – Aramis “Loki” Latheni, Arthur “The Spark” Cromwell, Corinne “Red” West, and Catie “Cat” O’Shaughnessy – were shadowrunners working out of the Redmond Barrens with close connections to both Transys Neuronet and Novatech Telecom when The One Percent stole Renraku’s wireless Matrix transceiver prototype. It was through LSGCNR’s mediation that prevented Renraku from taking hostile action against both of the American corporations involved in hiring the One Percent (as well as preventing the massive megacorp from launching a direct attack against the runner team). Despite Renraku’s failure to maintain their technology being somewhat public knowledge, L.T.S. GunCompener, Transys Neuronet, Novatech, and Erika banded together to form a closed-ranks defense against them. This, combined with L.T.S. GunCompener’s strangely proficient black ops team, allowed the corporations to remain at the kiddie tables in the Corporate Court, and sponsored L.T.S. GunCompener into A-status with savvy investments into its various nascent industries.
It was all not for nothing, certainly. L.T.S. GunCompener showed an almost uncanny ability at coming up with new computer and military hardware and technology. Taking the wireless specs that were provided to Novatech, the company’s first creation – a wireless smartlink system called the Gun-Compensatenor – was wildly successful and helped them maintain their profits as they expanded into other sectors.
Most recently, LSGCNR has broken into aerospace and entertainment, working with Federated-Boeing to produce a suborbital VTOL jet, with aspirations of creating easier and more stable spacecraft in the future. On the entertainment front, Guns & Comps Records was founded in the Confederated American States city of Jacksonville, specializing in the heaviest music possible: black & death metal, industrial, and thrashcore & hardcore punk. Their primary act, Blüdvëïn, is known as one of the hardest thrashcore troll metal bands in music today. Perhaps due to Blüdvëïn’s success, Guns & Comps Records has sought out metahuman-specific bands, and has been called one of the “most inclusive music labels of the late 21st century.” Their inclusion of minority metahumans has made their record label incredibly popular among the dispossessed and disenfranchised non-human metahumans of the world. Unfortunately, this has also drawn extremely negative attention from Humanis Policlub.
With the opening of L.T.S. GunCompener Oceania, the corporation has fully become a true megacorp, with a corporate enclave on every continent (including a research station in Antarctica). This has allowed L.T.S. GunCompener to finally compete with their peers and push for a AA-rating.
LSGCNR has not had the luxury of time that other corporations have had to build up a strong intelligence or counter-intelligence network. While they do employ some startlingly adept coders and security agents, by rushing to the forefront they’ve painted a target on their backs.
One thing that gives many other corporations pause is the incredible black ops team that LSGCNR can field against their opponents. Perhaps due to their original status as a black market for high-end guns and computer equipment in the Redmond Barrens, they have recruited a number of retired shadowrunners, gang members, and mercenaries to fill out their ranks. This allows them to produce a staggering amount of defensive and offensive potential. Due to their relative newness as a megacorporation and their general lack of efficiency, this will likely be a serious threat to other corporations within five years, but acts currently as a deterrent from infiltrating LSGCNR facilities.
Damien Knight of Ares Macrotechnology has been heard to comment that Cromwell and Latheni are relying almost solely on the friends they made while they were running the shadows and, more importantly, shadowrunners can be bought. So far, this idea has not reached fruition – no one has been able to convince a L.T.S. GunCompener employee to defect so far.
- Security (LSGCNR Privateers): LSGCNR employs a diverse number of people throughout every sector. Their security team is specifically impressive, with a collection of former shadowrunners and mercenaries. Due to the non-compete clause given to all new LSGCNR employees stating that all security personnel can conduct their own shadowruns except against L.T.S. GunCompener assets, they have attracted Prime Runners and newbies to their ranks. Harry Nakada, president of Renraku Computer Systems, coined the term “Privateers” for LSGCNR security forces. The Spark liked the name, so it’s been incorporated into corporate lingo.
